Hello dear Friends!
The past year has been a period when pretty much everything in our lives was defined by a virus. It is often in periods of crisis that we remember how vulnerable and interdependent we are. This time we also discovered the importance of kindness and the many forms it can take: being kind as in being caring, comforting, supportive.
But also: being kind as in finding solutions, building confidence, nurturing resilience. The Athena40 Women who have made it to this role models list, have all selected to lead from a place of kindness as a practice.
Elizabeth H. Filippouli
Founder & CEO, Global Thinkers Forum & Athena40
Elizabeth Filippouli is a journalist, writer and social entrepreneur.
She is the Founder of Global Thinkers Forum, a non-profit platform incubated at Oxford’s Said Business School in 2011 with a mission to promote accountability in leadership through a family of initiatives convening thinkers and decision makers, and to support the economic integration of youth and women through mentoring programmes.
With a longstanding passion for creative thinking, she brings to life artistic projects that raise awareness on contemporary issues and challenge established ideas. Her play ‘Alexander the Great-Between Dreams and Imagination’ was produced for the British Library in London in February 2023.
Her book 'From Women to the World: Letters for a New Century' published by Bloomsbury UK in 2021, brings together the diverse narratives of women activists, artists and professionals from nineteen countries.
Over her prolific career in journalism, she worked with Al Jazeera English, CNN International and Greek media and has served as advisor to international companies such as Coca Cola 3E, Athens Olympics Committee, World Economic Forum, Camelot UK, AG Leventis.
Her studies include MA in Journalism (London City University), EMBA Strategy & Innovation (Said Business School University of Oxford), ALM in Creative Writing (Harvard Extension School), Executive Diploma Shaping Change in the Information Age (Harvard Kennedy School of Government).
She is an Aspen Institute UK Fellow, and a member of the Society of Authors in the UK, the Dramatist's Guild in the US, the London Press Club and the London Foreign Press Association.
Their purpose-driven lives are guided by values, which are embedded into their leadership style.

A panel of 58 independent, international judges shortlisted 120 powerhouses.
On April 23, 2021 we announced the 40 most influential ones, based on the number of votes they received.
