LONDON, March 21, 2024 – In a dazzling celebration of women’s empowerment and leadership, Athena40 hosted the Women’s Contributions to Sustainability Awards on March 20, 2024. This inspiring event was in partnership with the London Press Club, the City of London, KNOCK Inc. and ROKH Global and showcased the extraordinary accomplishments of seven remarkable women across various categories, honouring their commitment to driving positive change and inspiring others to follow in their footsteps.

The evening, which was under the auspices of the Lady Mayoress Elisabeth Mainelli, commenced with an electrifying atmosphere as attendees gathered to recognise and celebrate the winners in seven distinct categories, each representing a unique aspect of empowerment and progress. 

Change Visionary: The award for Change Visionary was bestowed upon Nurdeniz Tuncer whose innovative initiatives have sparked transformative shifts in societal norms in Turkey for people with disabilities.

Leader of Positive Impact: Lynne Parker was honoured as the Leader of Positive Impact as the founder and chief executive of Funny Women which she set up in 2002. Funny Women provides comedy expertise to help women to perform, write and do business with humour.

Sustainability Ambassador: The Sustainability Ambassador award was presented to Eleni Skarveli recognizing her tireless advocacy for environmental conservation and sustainable travelling.

Pioneer in Tech and Innovation: Sarah Mintey MBE was celebrated as a Pioneer in Tech and Innovation for her ground-breaking contributions to the field of technology and education.

Promoter of Understanding Between Cultures was given to Geraldine Sharpe-Newton, honouring her advocacy and bridge-building initiatives for over four decades that have helped cultivate a more inclusive society, where diversity is celebrated and embraced.

Advocate for the Rights of Women: The charity Media Matters for Women was recognized as an Advocate for the Rights of Women for their unwavering commitment to advancing gender equality and championing the rights of women in Sierra Leone.

Artist whose work Re-Imagines our Societies: The award was presented to London-based Iranian artist Anahita Rezvani-Rad who has been shedding light on important narratives around women’s rights and empowerment in Iran, amplifying voices that are often marginalized and underserved.

The Athena40 Women Awards Evening served as a poignant reminder of the indomitable spirit and boundless potential of women everywhere. As these seven extraordinary women took centre stage, their stories of resilience, courage, and determination resonated deeply with attendees, inspiring renewed hope and optimism for a brighter future.

Tonight is an opportunity to celebrate women’s contribution to sustainability, accountability and the prosperity of our societies.”
