Born in 1989, Turkish designer Begüm Cânâ Özgür graduated from Bilkent University, Interior Architecture department (2010) and received her masters degree from Cranbrook Academy of Art, 3D design department (2013).

Following her studies, in 2014 she started her design studio based in Istanbul where the cultural richness of the land has been the major motive in her work, developing an interest in ancient craft practices.

Collaborating with local crafts people around villages of Turkey, in 2015, she launched her first flat-weave rug collection, introducing contemporary design approach to the traditional culture of weaving in Anatolia. SHADE collection received Elle Decor International Design Awards EDIDA and was relaunched in 2017 by the well-respected rug company Nanimarquina.

With her work, Cânâ creates a contemporary expression through the traditional culture of weaving. Her journey is enriched through the dialog she forms with the women weavers of Anatolia who takes role in the production process from their homes. This inclusive design process calls the power of design in social transformation, drives her to take a responsible position through her design practice.
