“If You Don’t Like Something Don’t Do It”
Shaee is from Kurdistan of Nothern Iraq. She has participated in many leadership volunteering organizations, such as Mercycorps and the Global Citizen programme that made her realize that she really wants to help people understand that we all need each other and we should work with love for a better and brighter future for our generation to live in peace. Q: Tell us a few things about your country, and also your life's story!
A: My name is Shaee, I am 20 years old, I am an engineering student, and working in many volunteering organisations. I live in Iraq, which is in the Middle-east and it is a multicultural country, including different nationalities, such as Arabs and Kurds.
Q: What is your view of the world as it is today? And how do you define the concept of a better world?
A: When I see a country like USA or UAE and a continent like AFRICA I see a WORLD that is unfair.

Shaee Mohammed Kamal is 20 years old and is from Kurdistan of Nothern Iraq. She is a civil engineering student. In her own words, since she was a child she loved to help other people and enjoyed working with individuals of different thinking something that challenged her thought into understanding the differences in the world.
She has participated in many leadership volunteering organizations, such as Mercycorps and the Global Citizen program that made her realize that she really wants to help people understand that we all need each other and we should work with love for a better and brighter future for our generation to live in peace.
Q: What are some of the key challenges in your society?
A: For now, my country faces economic problems which affect the education system, so one of the challenges we're facing now is education, as our students are leaving their education and going abroad.
Q: As a young individual what are a few of the hurdles that you had to overcome up until today?
A: Now I am an engineering student in college, which is so hard for me because I am not interested in that. Unfortunately, our education system doesn’t allow us to attend the college our choice. Despite that, I am keeping busy, volunteering in organisations that are helping refugees, which is something that I love doing and so I manage to balance between my work and studies.
Q: Why is the role of a mentor important for you?
A: Because they would help me to know what is the right way to do things.
Q: Do you have a lesson that life has taught you and you would like to share?
A: Yes, I have. When I was in the 12th grade, I got a high mark and just because of this mark I could go to the engineering college, despite the fact that I was never smart in math or physics or any other subject related to engineering. However just because I listened to others instead of trusting myself, I am now regretting my choice because I could have gone to another college and study something that I love. This would allow me to be a top student, instead of studying engineering and not being able to pass the classes. So I want to tell everyone that they shouldn’t do something if they don’t like it. I don't mean that they should not listen to others that advise them, but they should listen to them and only choose the good sides that suits them best.
Q: Name a project, a foundation or a person in your country that you think is doing great work in helping improve other people's lives!
A: Faruq Mala Mustafa is a businessman, who is the only rich man that uses his money to help humanity. While there are other businessmen richer than him, they just kept their money to enjoy their lives and they don’t see other people that are in pain and need help. Faruq Mala Mustafa donates his money to help others live a happy life by opening many big industries, which employ hundreds of people, doing uncountable charity works and in addition to that he also supports young individuals to study and receive an education.
