Etuk Emmanuel Ekom is 24 years old and was born in the densely populated city of Lagos in Nigeria. Etuk holds a first-class degree in Agriculture with a major in Crop Production from the University of Port Harcourt; after graduation, he moved on to work at Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education in the Department of Agricultural Science where he gained good experience in rabbit production and poultry (layers) management.
Prior to his time at Alvan, he had been trained on pig farming, and broiler production at the defunct Songhai Farms in Rivers state.
Prior to completing his degree studies, Etuk trained at African Regional Aquaculture Center (Arac) where he gained more insight on pig farming and fishery. Subsequently, he worked at the University of Port Harcourt Demonstration farm as part of the compulsory requirement for a degree in Agriculture.
While studying at the University of Port Harcourt, Etuk founded the “Agripreneur Group” which has grown to become a major fulcrum in driving agricultural entrepreneurship in students of the University of Port Harcourt interested in Agriculture or practising agriculture. The Agripreneur Group can boast of over 7 large new businesses borne during Etuk’s tenure as the pioneer president of the group ranging from Fish farms to crop farms and poultry farms.
Etuk featured as a finalist on the Unilever Idea Trophy challenge where he developed a unique idea to increase market share of one of Unilever’s products that was losing market grip. He was also a delegate at the National Education Summit held in Abuja in 2014 representing the University of Port Harcourt.
Apart from being trained in agriculture, Etuk has been trained on several subject matters like Leadership (with Impact Leadership Academy and Yali West Africa Regional Leadership Cohort 3); business (with Impact Leadership Academy); computer programming (online self-learning with code academy and solo learn); graphics design (self pace online learning using Canva and other designing tools).
